About Us

As head of a working group in the research and development department of the Kathrein-Werke Rosenheim, his area of responsibility included the design of an optical heterodyne transmission system, the development of hardware and software for optical and electrical measurements, the design and engineering of laser diode modules as well as the design of optical transmitters and receivers up to 2 GHz.

In 1996, he joined Texas Instruments where he set up the company's European RF application lab. He was responsible for customer support of RF products in Europe, designed evaluation boards for cordless and ISM applications and held in-house seminars. Dr. Konstroffer is an author of several technical publications. Since 2000, he works as an independent consultant and managing director of RF Consult GmbH.

He has authored and co-authored more than 250 technical journal/ conference papers concerning microwave CAD, GaN technology, as well as organic LED (OLED) technology. He is Principal Author and Owner of LINMIC software, which has been integrated into CST, Germany. In 1985, he was Co-Founder and Chair of the first German IEEE Chapter, Board, and became IEE Fellow for his contribution to EM-oriented Microwave CAD.

Since 1989, he was a member of Electromagnetics Academy at MIT, the USA in recognition of achievements in Electromagnetics field theory. His contribution to IEEE is extended, where he became Coordinator of the IEEE Initiative for Eastern Europe (EU/ FSU Initiative) and also, he is Board of IEEE, Division IV Director. Since 1997, he was Chair of German Section of the IEEE. In 2000, he was the recipient of IEEE Millennium Medal (IEEE, New York). In 2009, he received the Honorary degree from KMUT’NB Bangkok. In 2012, he became IEEE Life Fellow and recipient of the Golden Needle of Honor of VDE, the German Association of Electrical Engineers.

Currently he is with University of Malaya as associate professor. He is serving as industrial liaison of Faculty of Engineering of University of Malaya. He is to be taking initiative with the research collaboration of Industry 4.0 with RWTH Aachen University and leading research in University of Malaya.

He has authored about than 100 papers in technical journals and conferences, 3 technical books in the in USA. He is Senior Member of IEEE (USA) and Fellow of IET (UK). He has been appointed as IEEE Industry Relations Team of Asia Pacific since 2015. Now, he is consultant of Steerix GmbH. He is leading digital manufacturing transformation in University of Malaya.

Prof. Meisen studied computer science specializing in data mining, data exploration and management and holds a doctorate in engineering. He is co-author and author of more than seventy scientific publications.

In the last years Prof. Meisen and his team have successfully researched the conception and implementation of Industrial Big Data architectures and the introduction and application of machine learning methods in a productive, industrial environment in a multitude of joint research and development projects with industry. He is also very successfully involved in the Excellence Initiative of RWTH Aachen University.

In the context of his doctorate activities as well as in terms of his current research, Max Hoffmann is focusing on topics related to the digitization in the manufacturing industries. The covers the information technological process chain from the acquisition of data in the field by making use of semantic interface and IoT technologies (OPC UA, MQTT, …), the integration of information using highly scalable technologies (Big Data) as well as the creation of valuable insights for the production process by means of data-driven approaches (Machine Learning).

Additional research activities focus on multi-agent system technologies in manufacturing. In this context, Max Hoffmann is part of the expert group “Agent systems in automation technology”, member of the technical committee “Agent systems” of the VDI/VDE-Gesellschaft Mess- und Automatisierungstechnik (GMA) as well as author of the standard of the working group.

In 2005, he graduated as Diplom-Ingenieur (equivalent to Master of Engineering) in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Aerospace Engineering, at the RWTH Aachen University. In December 2009, he passed his doctoral examination as Doctor of Engineering with a distinction. In March 2010, he received the Young Researchers Award of the Cluster of Excellence "Integrative Production Technology for High-Wage Countries", which is funded by the DFG. The Borchersplakette was conferred to him in July 2011. Furthermore, he was awarded a Fellowship of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, the Joachim Herz Foundation and the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Foundation for Science in Germany) for innovative teaching at universities in 2013.

Typical tasks are to work out feasibility studies and designs for lasers and other photonic devices, to identify and solve technical problems, to find suitable laser sources for specific applications, and to do tailored staff training courses on specialized subjects. He enjoys to be involved in manifold industrial projects with a great variety of both technical aspects and types of services, and regularly achieves very high levels of customer satisfaction.

He was general chairman of the IEEE International Workshop on Charge-Coupled Devices and Advanced Image Sensors in 1997, 2003 and in 2009, and will serve again as chairman of the International Image Sensor Workshop to be organized in 2015. He is member of the Steering Committee of the aforementioned workshop and founder of the Walter Kosonocky Award, which highlights the best paper in the field of solid-state image sensors. During several years he was a member of the technical committee of the European Solid-State Device Research Conference and of the European Solid-State Circuits Conference. Since 1999 he is a member of the technical committee of the International Solid-State Circuits Conference. For the same conference he acted as secretary, vice-chair and chair in the European ISSCC Committee and he is a member of the overall ISSCC Executive Committee. He will acted as the Vice-Chair and Chair of the International Technical Program Committee respectively for the ISSCC2009 and ISSCC2010. In 1995, he authored the book "Solid-State Imaging with Charge-Coupled Devices". This work is still considered as one of the main textbooks in the field of solid-state imaging. In 1998 he was nominated as an IEEE distinguished lecturer. In March 2001, he became part-time professor at the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. In Delft his main attention goes to the coaching of PhD students researching CMOS image sensors.

In April 2002, he joined DALSA Corp. to act first as the company's Chief Technology Officer and later as the Chief Scientist of DALSA Semiconductors. After he left DALSA in September 2007, he founded Harvest Imaging and now he is fully focusing on training, coaching and teaching in the field of solid-state imaging technology. In 2008 Albert Theuwissen received the SMPTE's (Society for Motion Pictures and Television Engineers) Fuji Gold Medal for his contributions in research, development and education in the field of solid-state image capturing. The winner of this award was announced during the technical conference of SMPTE, October 28th, 2008, in Hollywood (CA). He is member of editorial board of the magazine 'Photonics Spectra', an IEEE Fellow and member of SPIE.

His academic and industrial experience includes affiliations with the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics, the Institute of Microelectronics, Singapore, M/A-COM, Cork, Ireland, Infineon Technologies (Munich, Germany/Linz, Austria), and Bell Laboratories, Alcatel-Lucent, Dublin, Ireland, as an Engineer, a Researcher, a Lecturer, and an Educator. He was a Guest Professor with the University of Linz, Linz, Austria. He has authored or coauthored over 80 papers and five books dedicated to RF and microwave circuit design.

He holds more than 25 European and U.S. patents, and pending several patent applications. Dr. Grebennikov has presented short courses and tutorials as an invited speaker at the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (IEEE MTT-S) International Microwave Symposium (IMS), European and Asia–Pacific Microwave Conferences, Institute of Microelectronics, Singapore, and Motorola Design Centre, Penang, Malaysia.

After a employment at Honeywell Inc., the US in the field of Satellite Communication, he joined Panasonic R&D Center, the USA in the field of UMTS research and led the Mobile Radio Network research team. He has been working in mobile communication R&D for more than 20 years. Since 3GPP was founded in 1998, Eiko has been contributing actively to 3G and 4G standardization. Besides numerous contributions to 3GPP, he published 20+ conference papers, filed about 100 patent applications (US Patents and International Patents) and contributed to various technical books in LTE area.

Eiko works as consultant, advisor, trainer and independent expert for various organizations. Other interest: LTE Public Safety, M2M/MTC, V2X/C2X, LTE Broadcast, eMBMS, HetNets and Small Cells. Eiko has been involved in many research projects and contributed actively to UMTS, LTE and LTE-A standardization in ETSI SMG and 3GPP RAN. Since the establishment of 3GPP, he attended different Radio Access Network working groups mainly RAN1 and RAN2.

For active devices, novel methodologies have been developed for the noise characterization and the subsequent modeling, and equivalent-circuit modeling strategies have been implemented both for small and large-signal operating regimes for GaAs, GaN, SiC, Si, InP MESFET/HEMT devices. The second line is related to design methodologies and characterization methods for low noise devices and circuits. The main focus is on cryogenic amplifiers and devices. Collaborations are currently ongoing with the major radioastronomy institutes all around Europe within the frame of FP6 and FP7 programmes (RadioNet).

Finally, the third line is in the analysis and design methodologies for linear and nonlinear microwave circuits. The above research lines have produced more than 300 publications on refereed international journals and presentations within international conferences. He acts as a referee of international journals of the microwave and millimeter wave electronics sector and he is on the steering committee of international conferences and workshops.

He has written more than 550 published papers, seven books and holds 33 patents. He has been responsible for both technical and management levels for many research programs including ten ESPRIT projects and has served the European Commission as ESPRIT Projects' Evaluator, Reviewer and as European Union expert in many European Initiatives. He served the Academy of Finland on the assessment of electronic research in Academic institutions and on the research programs’ evaluations. He served the National Research Council of Portugal on a Board for the research activity assessment of Portuguese Universities. He was a Member of the Advisory Board of INESC-Lisbon, Portugal.

He is the Chairman of The Academic Committee of the Microelectronics Key Lab. Macau, China. He is the President of the IEEE CAS Society, he was VP of Region 8 of IEEE CAS (1995-1997), Associate Editor of IEEE-TCAS-II, President of the IEEE Sensor Council (2002-2003), IEEE CAS BoG member (2003-2005), VP Publications IEEE CAS (2007-2008). He was DL IEEE SSC Society (2009-2010) and DL IEEE CAS Society (2006-2007; 2012-2013). He received the 1999 IEEE CAS Society Meritorious Service Award, the 2000 CAS Society Golden Jubilee Medal, and the IEEE Millenium Medal. He received the 1996 IEE Fleming Premium, the ESSCIRC 2007 Best Paper Award and the IEEJ Workshop 2007 and 2010 Best Paper Award. He received the IEEE CAS Society 2013 Mac Van Valkenburg Award. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing, and Fellow of IEEE since 1996.

In 1989, he became a consultant for HP/Agilent's device modeling software IC-CAP, focusing on strategies for verified, reliable device measurements and on modeling of diodes, bipolar and GaAs transistors, as well as passive components. Since 2013, he is the owner of SisConsult in Germany, providing consulting service and teaching for Electronic Device Measurements, Data Quality Verification and Modeling. He is the author of Agilent's (now Keysight's) IC-CAP Modeling Handbook.

In the summer of 2007, he was a Visiting Professor at EPFL - Lausanne (Switzerland). He has authored or co-authored more than 200 publications on journals (75, mostly IEEE Transactions) and conference proceedings. One of them is the second most downloaded TCAS-I paper in 2013. He is a co-author of three books, Enabling the Internet of Things - from Circuits to Circuits (Springer, 2017), Flip-Flop Design in Nanometer CMOS - from High Speed to Low Energy (Springer, 2014), Model and Design of Bipolar and MOS Current-Mode Logic: CML, ECL and SCL Digital Circuits (Springer, 2005). His primary research interests include ultra-low power VLSI circuits, self-powered and wireless nodes, near-threshold circuits for green computing, error-aware and widely energy-quality scalable VLSI circuits, circuit techniques for emerging technologies. In 2010-2012 he was the Chair of the “VLSI Systems and Applications” Technical Committee of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, for which he was also Distinguished Lecturer in 2009-2010. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (2015-2017). In the last five years, he has given 50+ invited talks in top universities and leading semiconductor companies. He currently serves as Associate Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems, and served as Guest Editor of various journal special issues (including the issue on “Ultra-Low Voltage Circuits and Systems for Green Computing” published on Dec. 2012 on IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems – part II).

He also serves or has served as Associate Editor of a number of journals (IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems, ACM Transactions on Design Automation of Electronic Systems, IEEE Transactions on CAS - part I, Microelectronics Journal, Integration – The VLSI Journal, Journal of Circuits, Systems, and Computers, Journal of Low Power Electronics, Journal of Low Power Electronics and Applications). He serves or has served as a panelist for several funding agencies and research programs in the US and Europe. He was Technical Program Chair (e.g., SOCC, ICECS, VARI, NEWCAS, ICM) and Track Chair in numerous conferences (e.g., ICCD, ISCAS, ICECS, VLSI-SoC, APCCAS, ICM). Prof. Alioto is an IEEE Fellow.

He then worked at Digital Equipment Corporation (presently, HP), where he was a member of the Alpha Server Product Development Group. In 2000, he joined the faculty of the James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA, as an Assistant Professor and later as a tenured Associate Professor. At Maryland, he was also a faculty member of the CALCE Electronic Products and Systems Center. He is currently a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, University of Waterloo, ON, Canada. He holds cross appointments with the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering and the Department of Physics and Astronomy. He has authored and coauthored more than 300 journals and conference technical papers on topics related to the electromagnetic phenomena and computational techniques to understand the same.

He is a coauthor of the book EMI/EMC Computational Modeling Handbook (1st ed.: Kluwer, 1998; 2nd ed.: Springer-Verlag, 2001; Japanese ed. published in 2005). Prof. Ramahi is the winner of the 1994 Digital Equipment Corporation Cash award, the 2004 University of Maryland Pi Tau Sigma Purple Cam Shaft Award for teaching, the Excellent Paper Award in the 2004 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, Sendai, Japan, and 2010 The University of Waterloo Award for Excellence in Graduate Supervision. In 2012, he received the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Society Technical Achievement Award. He served as a consultant to several companies and was a co-founder of EMS-PLUS, LLC and Applied Electromagnetic Technology, LLC, and the Eastern Rugs and Gifts Company. In 2009, he served as a Co-Guest Editor for the Journal of Applied Physics Special Issue on Metamaterials and Photonics. From 2009 to 2011, He served as IEEE EMC Society Distinguished Lecturer. He is Fellow of IEEE.

Also, he is the author of the well-known Encyclopedia of Laser Physics and Technology. Dr. Paschotta originally started his career in scientific research. In 2002, he achieved the habilitation at ETH Zürich and received the Fresnel Prize of the European Physical Society (EPS) in 2002. Despite his success as a researcher, in 2004 he started the company RP Photonics Consulting GmbH in Zürich, Switzerland, and moved to Germany in 2010. His full-time occupation is now to serve companies in the photonics industry worldwide.

He had been the Chief Technical Adviser to Turkish Prime Ministry Office and Director of Electronic and Technical Security of Turkey (1993-1999). He was the founding President of Isik University, Istanbul, Turkey (1996-2004). He was visiting professors at Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany (1987-1994) and Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan (2006-2008). Dr. B.S. Yarman published more than 200 scientific and technical papers in the field of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Microwave Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics and Management.

He holds 4 US patents assigned to US Air Force. He has served in various technical and scientific committees since 1980 in the USA, and Turkey. He received the Young Turkish Scientist Award in 1986, Technology Award in 1987 of National Research and Technology Council of Turkey. He is the Alexander Von Humboldt Research Fellow (1987), Bonn, Germany, member of New York Academy of Science (1994), “Man of the year in Science and Technology (1988)” of Cambridge Biography Center, UK, and Fellow member of IEEE since 2004.
