It introduces the participants to the basic sensor related electronics and signal conditions such as Op-Amps, bridge amplifiers, and comparators. It offers a basic understanding of guiding light in fibers such as physical principles, step-index single mode and multimode fibers, fiber nodes and their essential properties. Various aspects of light propagation in fibers such as power losses, effects of bending, polarization properties, chromatic dispersion, and nonlinearities will be discussed in more details.

Moreover, an overview of principles of fiber fabrication and fiber-coupled devices type will be explained. Participants will get a better understanding of fiber amplifiers and laser. This includes the continuous-wave behavior of fiber amplifiers and lasers, amplification of nanosecond, picosecond and femtosecond pulses in fibers as well as multi-stage fiber amplifiers.
